- Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)
- Body corporate
- Non-resident Indian (subject to certain conditions)
Where will my funds be invested?
Funds are invested in equity shares of companies listed on recognised stock exchanges in India. We focus only on equity shares; at times we may hold cash or invest in gilt securities for a short period when the right opportunities are not available.
We do not engage client funds in intra-day trading or in futures and options.
Will the investment be in my name?
Yes. Under PMS, a bank account and demat account are opened separately in your name, and all investments are made in your name only. Any income from the investments is credited to your bank account and the shares are held in your demat account. As per the PMS agreement, the Power of Attorney for operating the bank and demat accounts rests with the portfolio manager.
Can I introduce my current portfolio? What is the minimum investment?
Yes, you need not introduce fresh funds. An existing portfolio with a market value above ₹50 lakh can be introduced, as can fresh funds of ₹50 lakh or more in your newly opened bank account. As per SEBI guidelines, the minimum portfolio size per client is ₹50 lakh.
What investment horizon should I keep in mind?
There is no lock-in period. However, considering the benefits of long-term investing, an investment horizon of at least 18–24 months is advisable.
How do I know the value of my portfolio?
You will receive a username and password to log in and view your portfolio statements. SEBI requires portfolio managers to furnish a performance report every six months; at Care PMS, it is provided quarterly.
How are fees charged for Portfolio Management Services?
Fees are as per the agreement between you and the portfolio manager, and are payable annually depending on the growth and value of the portfolio at year end. See the fee structure on each strategy page.
What kind of return can I expect?
As per SEBI guidelines, a portfolio manager cannot guarantee any specific return. With calculated risk and downside protection in mind, we endeavour to outperform stock market indices.
How safe are my securities under PMS?
Axis Bank Limited is a Depository Participant with National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), ensuring safety in operations. Stock ownership always rests with the client. We are registered as a Portfolio Manager with SEBI (Registration No. INP000004128) and are governed through its regulations and regular reporting.
What are the risks involved?
Investments are subject to market risks and there is no assurance or guarantee that the objective of the Portfolio Management Service will be achieved. The value of investments may appreciate or depreciate to an unpredictable extent. Past performance does not indicate future performance.
How do I sign up?

Can a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) invest in shares in India?
Yes. NRIs can purchase shares of an Indian company on a stock exchange in India under the Portfolio Investment Scheme, on a repatriation and/or non-repatriation basis. A PIO is treated as an NRI and all benefits and conditions apply accordingly.
How can an NRI invest in shares in India?
Secondary-market equity investments by NRIs/PIOs are monitored under the Portfolio Investment Scheme (PIS) by the Reserve Bank of India through Authorised Dealer banks. For repatriable (NRE) investments, an NRI can approach an Authorised Dealer bank (such as Axis Bank Ltd) to open a savings and PIS account; upper limits apply from time to time.
For non-repatriable (NRO) investments, an NRI can open bank accounts with an Authorised Dealer bank; no upper limits apply.
Can an NRI open multiple NRO accounts for investments?
Yes, following amendments by the Reserve Bank of India in February 2016.
Can an NRI open multiple PIS (NRE) accounts for investments?
No. There can be only one PIS account for repatriable funds.
How are proceeds from investments credited?
Sale proceeds, dividends etc. are credited (net of taxes) to the NRE account for investments made on a repatriation basis, and to the NRO account for investments on a non-repatriation basis.
How is investment bifurcated between repatriation and non-repatriation?
Investments made through a Non-Resident External (NRE) rupee account, and their proceeds, are on a repatriation basis and freely repatriable. Investments made through a Non-Resident Ordinary (NRO) rupee account are on a non-repatriation basis.
Funds from an NRO account can be repatriated if the amount does not exceed USD 1 million per financial year, subject to an undertaking and a certificate by a Chartered Accountant in the prescribed form.
How can NRIs pay for shares purchased on a stock exchange?
For purchases on a repatriation basis, payment is made by inward remittance of foreign exchange through normal banking channels or from funds held in an NRE account. For non-repatriation purchases, NRIs may also use funds in their NRO account.
What is the difference between investing through NRE and NRO accounts?
Apart from the repatriation conditions above, there is practically no difference as far as investments are concerned. However, interest income earned on NRO accounts attracts tax deduction at source.
How can funds be remitted outside India?
From NRE: freely permitted, subject to applicable taxes.
From NRO: permitted within an overall ceiling of USD 1 million (or equivalent) per financial year (April–March), subject to applicable taxes. Forms 15CA (online) and 15CB (Chartered Accountant certificate) must be submitted to your branch.
Why should an NRI file a return of income?
Actual tax liability may be lower than the TDS deducted, for example, income up to the basic exemption limit, income that is not taxable but on which tax was deducted, capital losses not set off at the time of deduction, or lower rates under a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement. Filing a return allows excess tax to be claimed as a refund, and allows capital losses to be carried forward against future gains.
How are equity shares classified for capital gains?
Equity shares held for less than 365 days are short-term capital assets; shares held for more than 365 days qualify as long-term capital assets.
How are long-term capital gains taxed?
Under Budget 2024, long-term capital gains on shares and equity-oriented mutual funds are taxed at 12.5% (plus applicable surcharge and cess) on gains exceeding ₹1.25 lakh in a financial year.
How are short-term capital gains taxed?
Gains on shares held for less than 365 days and sold at a profit are subject to short-term capital gains tax at 20%.
How is dividend income taxed?
Dividend income from shares in Indian companies is subject to tax deduction at source at 10% for resident individuals where total dividend income exceeds ₹10,000. Please consult your tax adviser for your specific situation.
Tax information is general in nature and subject to change. Please consult your tax adviser.
